Château-d’Œx

Our search for pushchair friendly hiking led us to the beautiful village of Château-d’Œx. Famous for it’s international hot air balloon festival every January, this village is the perfect setting for hiking, swimming and beautiful views all year round. Château-d’Œx is around 2 hours by train from Geneva in the Riviera-Pays-d’Enhaut.

You could go for the day from Geneva, especially by car, but we decided to stay over for one night and we found a fabulous apartment in a chalet on airbnb with all the things you need for a baby: cot, high chair, games, toys and pushchair access.

We went out for a delicious lunch at Hôtel de Ville (highchair provided) and then we decided to follow the yellow footpath signs from the village down to Pont Turrian and hike along this pushchair friendly walk to Cascade du Ramaclé.

We used our all terrain pushchair and followed the path along the La Sarine river to the waterfall. The views were beautiful and the terrain was perfect for us. Jack enjoyed seeing his first waterfall!

After the waterfall, the path took a steep ascent up (the path was still suitable for a pushchair but it was steep!) until we reached the open meadows and walked back along enjoying the views from higher up of the valley.

Since it was boiling hot, we decided to follow the path and keep walking along to Piscine du Berceau. The entry was 7 chf and we had a great time cooling off in the pool! There was also a little baby pool for Jack to enjoy!

We walked back into the village of Château-d’Œx and found a lovely play area – Spielplatz du Ville. Jack is obsessed with swings and can sit on one happily for ages! He’s not so happy when we have to take him away from the swing though!
